The Greek word is Yoo log eh-o which means to “speak well”. We should speak well of those which persecute us. Jeremiah 1:12 (GW) Then the LORD said to me, “Right. I am watching to make sure that my words come true.” God will make sure that when you speak His words they will come true! In the book of Ezekiel 37, Ezekiel is taken to a valley filled with very dry bones. He is asked if the bones can live. He was told to speak (or prophesy) to the bones to live again. 1 Corinthians 10:11 explains, Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Ezekiel 37:11 “Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.” We all have hopeless situations in our lives that we need to speak (or prophesy) to! In James 3, we see that it is not the storm wind that directs our ships to the rocky shores or to peaceful harbors; it is our helm (or tongue).
